I'm Christopher Irving. My life as a comic book historian and journalist led me to the classroom, as an assistant professor in Virginia Commonwealth University's Communication Arts department, where I mutated further into a media scholar.

The past two decades have cemented how much I love talking with creators, starting at my time writing for Comic Book Artist and Comics Buyer's Guide, and especially up through the dozens of interviews I conducted for essays as part of the Graphic NYC online project. I always loved not only the stories behind the stories, and the perspective only storytellers can bring to other stories.

Inner Workings allows me to have those conversations with my favorite creators and friends, but it also gives me an extra resource to share with my students, so they can learn to appreciate the story beyond the surface experience of enjoyment.
